Why training and furniture just aren't enough
|
It's been UK and European law to provide display screen equipment (DSE) training for over 15 years, yet the UK Health and Safety Executive recently admitted that DSE training has made no significant difference to absence rates or costs to industry in that time
That's hardly surprising: how can half an hour's training reverse half a lifetime's bad posture and working habits?
The current equation looks something like this:

The problem is, this equation doesn't add up! If you invest in training and good quality furniture, you may be spending a lot of money to do the bare minimum laid out in the health and safety regulations, but that's all you're doing
Even if you do train staff to meet the regulations, why not look around your office and count how many are actually following that training?
If your office is anything like most offices, the answer won't be a high number. Doesn't that mean that most of your existing investment is being wasted?
The fact is, most people simply don't pay attention to how they are sitting when they're engrossed in a task. However, short of paying a physiotherapist to patrol your offices reminding people whenever they sit badly, what more can you do?
PostureMinder is different. It provides initial training to meet the regulations and ensure everyone knows how they should be sitting, PLUS continual, gentle reinforcement of that training to improve posture and working habits. Most importantly, it does this in an intelligent, targeted, consensual way that maximises its impact

Besides safeguarding employee health and well-being and reducing costs, adopting PostureMinder is also a clear signal to the rest of the world that you're an innovative, responsible employer. The popularity of schemes such as Investors in People or the Times Top 100 Companies to Work For list are clear testament to the public relations and business reputation benefits of looking after your staff. Not to mention the positive effects on recruitment and staff retention.
